
Bali Turtle Releases 2000
During the year 2000, many individuals and organizations followed the lead of Earth Advocates in sponsoring Sea Turtle Ceremonial Releases on Bali. A way of peacefully showing discontent toward the ongoing slaughter and trade, meanwhile freeing battered Turtles given another chance to mature and live again. We will extend our appreciation to those who have join in the effort to save the ancient mariner by showing their efforts here!
Many juvenile Sea Turtles bought from Turtle dealers by Heinz von Holzen, owner of "Bali Bumbu" restaurant and also fathering a Olive Ridley Hatchery since last year. Here Turtles being cooled down before release.
One of Approximately 50 Sea Turtles released by Joan Leahy, a member of Earth Advocates, in a self financed ceremony. Joan joined the Save the Sea Turtle effort during the year 2000, and has been a great asset. This ones for you!
Finally a major Tourist Hotel chain made their voice heard as the Intercontinental Hotel Bali started their own Sea Turtle release and restoration plan the year 2000 to protest the ongoing Sea Turtle Slaughter and trade. During their November 16 Turtle release, 62 were released. Of 62 Turtles, only 2 were mature! The other 60 weren't juvenile, not even 5 years from maturity. And so goes the trade. Here we show images of this ceremonial release and new breakthrough in combating the trade.
